Dan Millman Goes Hurling Across My Bedroom

#Throw Back Thursday

Do you recognize your life path? Do you know your truth? Or are you like Goldilocks…
…..your waistline too big?
…..your love life too cold?
…..your job too hard?
Or perhaps you’re one of the three bears and some stranger has been eating your porridge, sitting in your chair and sleeping in your bed.

You are not alone.

In 2011 I was suffering from stress related health issues. I was directed to Phuong Nguyen, a Kinesiologist in Durango, CO. We had a wonderful session in which I balled my eyes out and got some well needed focus. She referred me to Dan Millman’s book The Life You Were Born To Live.  I headed directly to the book store from the appointment. It spoke to me at the start; “A guide to finding your life purpose”. Yes, I need a guide, desperately. I love a good self-help book and for only twenty five dollars I could easily afford it.

Super Power Tricia Gunberg.JPG

I rushed home and eagerly read the first eight pages, skipping to page 123 once I determined my “birth number”. Filled with enthusiasm I began to read, “here to work through issues of creativity while learning to trust the wise and beautiful spirit in themselves and others.”  Yes! I am creative. Yes! I do need to learn to trust. Yes! I want to be a wise and beautiful spirit. Wow, this Millman guy really knows what he is talking about. I continue reading, “…most seek knowledge outside of themselves rather than trust their intuitive depths.” I am a seeker of knowledge, but intuitive? No. I read on “..deep down, are wise and healing spirits; they can express themselves like angels in human form once they align themselves with the higher energy and will that manifest within them.”
What a bunch of crap!
Me, intuitive? No!
Me, a healer? Most definitely not!

I hurl the book (the force was great, I’m a softball player not an angel) across my bedroom. I would have returned it to the book store except I damaged the cover when it hit the door frame.

This information broke my heart. I wanted to trust that book. I needed so badly to find my life’s purpose. Not knowing was making me sick. The book was going to bring great epiphanies for me. Trumpets were going to sound. Passion was going to flow. An ease in knowing who I am was going to wash over me.

And mostly....mostly…everything was going to be just right.

The book sat quietly collecting dust and cat hair. I couldn’t let $25 go to waste so I investigated friends and families birth numbers. The readings clicked with everything I knew about them.

In the ancient Scottish tale the three bears devour the trespasser. Over time, small variations are made to the story and it becomes a popular children’s story. Largely in part to the change in the ending where Goldilocks jumps out the window and her outcome is left to our imagination.

Your outcome, my outcome, is left solely to our imagination. Armed with that knowledge and a little self-examination we can become so much more. Those words from Dan Millman still seem miles away. Yet, I know they are true. They are my truth:

“here to work through issues of creativity while learning to trust the wise and beautiful spirit in themselves and others.”

Please follow me here as I learn to trust and become the healer I am meant to be.

Dreamin' Demon

The dream I had the other night was the sort of dream that would wake most people. Believing it was inspired by my rather unhealthy meal way too close to bed time, I didn’t think much of it. I jotted it down because part of me wondered why I was visited by a demon.

Most characters in your dreams are really just mirrors, reflecting back to you something about yourself. They play their part so that you can learn about yourself. The dream nagged me as I couldn’t wrap my head around an aspect of myself being demon-like.  Was it a sugar monster or a caffeine fiend?  What about me was 7 foot tall, greenish-gray, gross, and cocky? The fact that I was not scared in the dream caught my attention as well. Evidently, slaying demons was old hat to my dream self. I had banished this one twice before.

Do I confidently slay my personal demons? Well, sometimes, but that didn’t feel like the complete answer. Looking further for clues, I considered what the demon had said. He talked in a deep growly voice and when I jokingly asked him what his poison was this time, he laughed.  “Oh girly, it doesn’t matter if I tell you because you are never going to figure it out,” he said.  “Grass and vodka,” the demon added.

I considered him telling me the answer could be a trick. Of course, this time, he was going to be much more difficult to expel. As he lumbered around pulling doors of hinges, even though I told everyone not to lock the doors because he’d just pull them off, I hid in the basement planning my next move involving grass and vodka.

Tracing my thoughts and questions leading up to the night of the greenish-gray ghoul, my mind had been working on how to ground myself every day and how to use flower essence.  Aha! I got you my scary messenger! In order to fight off unpleasant things I need to put my feet in grass every day and by adding flower essence to vodka ( I make an air freshener this way.) I can put myself the right mood.  (vodka or other alcohol is a good way to keep essential oils.)

To banish him I stood barefoot on top of a hill holding a vodka bottle. As he swooped down upon me I held my ground and threw the bottle at him.  "Oh crap!" He shouted as he burst into flames.

#1 Ground yourself every day- standing barefoot in the ocean or on grass is best. Any natural surface will do, even wood. Breath for a few moments and visualize yourself connecting to the earth.

#2 Support Yourself with essential oils- go to the oil section in the natural food store near you. Pick out what scent appeals to you or pick one based on a aliment you have. I love orange for the bathroom as orange oil detracts bugs and brightens your mood. See the photo below. Massage oil into your hands for a beautiful self care ritual. (Check label to see if it can be used at full strength or needs to be cut with another oil like coconut or olive.)

The ABC's of Your 123's ~O is for Oracle~

The ABC’s of Your 123’s
O is for Oracle
Using Numerology to Plan/See Your Future

How do you feel about deviation tools? Does the thought of using spiritual guidance seem okay, but you draw the line at tarot? I used to feel the same way. Forget woo-woo, I thought it was whack-a-do! My impression of fortune tellers was just a more sophisticated version of a pick-pocket. I assumed the card readers were watching you for clues, saying things in general, all in attempt to steal your money.

That is what I use to think until a fun fortune at a party turned out to be true. I was even more convinced people could ‘know’ things, more specifically, I could know things and there was no explanation for how. My first experience with that was a vivid dream of my sister. Prior to this my dreams were more like ‘warnings’ in the form of ‘feelings’ when I woke. This particular dream was much more informative. The dream had given me letters, eerily correct, of a man my sister had met. I remember calling her and asking her to just listen, not to say anything, as I retold the dream. She kept interrupting me. “Holy shit” she would say as I described  what I remembered. My dream was similar to the actual event my sister had, on or about the same night I had the dream.

“Holy shit” doesn’t even cover what I can do now. I hold my hands over someone or hold them in my mind and get information. The same thing with cards: tarot and oracle. I touch a card and it tells me “yes” or “no”. It’s kinda freaky, still.

I remember the very first reading I did for someone, (just like my Reiki training) I had no intention of doing readings for other people, but there I was doing a very accurate reading for a coworker during our lunch break. The cellophane wrap from the card deck was still clinging to my hand and lunch container. I had not even ‘cleared’ my cards. I had later read in the insturctions that clearing was necessary.

My First deck Sonia Choquette.JPG

This does not require any training. The use of oracle and tarot have been used for centuries, first as just a fun game, then as a way to tell interesting stories or to create poetry. It has evolved into the deviation tool it is today. One thing I know for sure is we each have the answers we need. That is why we seek the oracle, for answers, yes? The answers are within us, only needing to be nudged out. Like dreams. Like synchronicities. They are on the tips of our tongues, on the lace of our hearts. We only need faith and intention to release them (or 'see' them).

In my book, Say YES to Who You Are to Create Fitness, I encourage the reader to create their own cards and give step by step instructions. I can feel the difference in the power of my own cards verses the cards I have purchased. I believe it was my intention, or my energy placed on them, that make them more powerful. By powerful, I mean, easier for me to read/understand their meaning. The first deck I created for myself was dry erase on the back. I used them to accomplish my tasks. My cards were my ‘to-do’ list, thus the necessity of washing them off when a job was complete. With a few exceptions, like taxes and cleaning, my job lists would change, or I would want a different focus.

Here are a few of the cards I have create.

DIY Oracle Cards made for 3 by Tricia Gunberg jpg

Design your own

Create cards with these instructions:

See my book for instructions on creating your own oracle cards to support on your fitness journey. If you have 3 in your Health and Wellness Path, it would be especially helpful for you to create your own cards.

Here is an excerpt from my book on oracle cards:

Organizing Your New Fitness Goals

In this step of the process you will be making tools to help you organize your new fitness goals. You can consider these tools as you would glue for a puzzle. You have all the pieces, you have put them together now you need to make them stick so your hard work does not fall apart.
The first tool you will make is organizing oracle cards. This will be an exciting endeavor because the energy of your intent (Your goals are your intent!) will be added to the cards as you create them. The process of making your own cards will deepen your connection to them. They will be your ‘calling card’ to the Universe, making it clear what you desire. This is important because your intent to create health with your fitness program strengthens your resolve. This energy will be all over the cards you make. Exciting!
Decorate the backside of your cards or leave them blank, it is up to you. Adding a creative flair will further deepen the connection to their meaning and energy. Also, it is just plain old fun to get crafty. The front side of the card will be data you fill in. This data will be a combination of your current level of fitness, your fitness goals and your Health and Wellness Path information. The cards will be divided into three sections: frequency, duration and activity.
Follow these steps to create your own organizing oracle cards. The following steps will show you how to use them to make a fitness schedule.”

If you have intuitive abilities or would like to develop them, making your own oracle deck will certainly help you. Divination and spiritual guidance is a good way to connect with who you are!

Connecting to your Intuitive Abilities by Tricia Gunberg

These exercises can support you in so many ways! If you want to heal yourself, start here to connect with yourself.

What you will need for this Grounding and Clearing Workshop that can be used to connect with your intutitive abilities as well as your creative abilitities.

standing meditation.jpg
  • 15 minutes – 2.5 hours, spend as much or as little time as you would like
  • Chair
  • Desk or table Place to stand, preferably outside
  • Notebook and pen- track your experience after each prompt to “be quiet here and feel
  • 3-6 index cards

These methods helped me write my book. I continue to use them for myself as well as share them with clients and my meditation class.

I start the workshop by scanning each participant with my hands, making note of areas that get my attention.  It is a good idea to take a few minutes before doing these exercises and make notes of anything you notice in your body. If you are working on your intuitive abilities, this is especially important to use this ‘muscle.’

A bit about me before we get started:

If someone would have told me in 2010, that I’d be an author, I’d would have nodded. If they would have told me I’d be making a living doing energy work, I would have fallen off my bar stool laughing. As with all things, it has been a process and continues to be. I am a very intuitive person. I do energy work because I was drawn to it and then I realized it appealed to me and it was, in fact, part of my life purpose.  Another reason I do energy work, including writing, is because I am sympathetic to human plights such as addiction, depression, unhealthy weight and general ill health. It is important to me to create methods to support myself and my clients.

I understand my journey to get HERE started sometime before my birth but specifically my energy work started in 2009. Health issues lead me to kinesiology. The Kinesiologist to a numerologist. Numerology lead me to be open to my intuitive abilities, which lead to Reiki and, more specifically, to my intuitive healing abilities. I kept my writing hidden for many years. It tried to push and shove itself into my life, until I cleared the fear. That is what this manual is about.

This could also be titled “Speed dating for the Soul”

Call these methods anything you would like; grounding, clearing, knocking down blocks, but what we really are doing is making a connections with our deeper selves. We are creating both space and opportunity to know our true selves. It’s in that space we find our creativity and all the yummy bits, that hopefully, we want to share with others.

#1 you can’t do this wrong
#2 there are millions of methods, I’m just showing you a few so you can work with them in whatever manner feels right to you
#3 I welcome you to share your thoughts and questions while we go through this process. Everyone will get more out of it if you do.  If you are reading this without my direct instruction please go to Facebook or send me an email at theenergygarden@outlook.com if you have  questions.

Grounding~do this while standing up~

Science behind it-This is the science in a nut shell- we could take an entire hour to discuss this one alone. Our bodies are made up of electrons, your heart and brain use electric impulses. Free radicals gum up the works. You can limit free radicals but not entirely. Grounding or Earthing is another term, adds electrons to your body through the bottom of your feet thus displacing some free radicals.   Antioxidants do the same thing.

Demonstration and Participation – Please stand up. Spread out. Yogies in ‘tadasana’, (video) stand in a comfortable position, close your eyes, you can visualize roots coming from your feet into the earth or put your minds eye into your feet to feel energy.

Relax and Feel

Best place for grounding: Ocean Water, then Beach, then Earth: Dewy grass. After that any porous material with water: cement but not blacktop, tile better than wood

(1-3 minutes)
Breath- another good way to clear space is with your breath. Breathe into your heart, bending over clears your head.

Demonstration and Participation- diaphragmatic; that is using your entire diaphragm to breath.  (AKA: BoB’s Bottom of the Belly Breaths- weekly reminders at my Facebook page). At first, too many of these might make you feel faint, just do as many as feels comfortable and then pick a breathing pattern that feels the best to you.

In Breath/Out Breath- lets practice the in/out. That is to say, think about your in breath to make you tall, light and long as you breath in and increase your connectedness to the earth(feet to the ground, your bottom to a chair) as you breath out.

Colors- white is clearing, green healing, purple intuitive, red/pink passion. Visualize the color coming in with the breath, as it circulates it grabs up what you don’t need and on your out breath releases it.

4 Count- (Ha- means four) count to four on both the in breath and the out breath

Be Quiet here and FEEL-

Ho oponopono- Hawaiian, ancient way everything is energy and Ho oponopono is a way to make things right. “Hawaii” translated means land of people who breathe so it seems very appropriate!  This is why Hawaiians call white men ‘ha o le’, lazy breath

Method: 7 counts, inhale, hold 7 counts, exhale 7 counts hold 7 counts this is one round do 9 rounds. Stand up please- begin your hooponopono breath –(reference Dr. Len)

(3-5 minutes)
Visualization ~sitting down~

Demonstration & Participation-  Eyes closed, visualize a cleaning tool of your choice. A white rose, a QTip, a vacuum, feather duster, swirl it around your body parts, starting at the head, moving down to your neck and face, to your R arm then your left, past your torso, hips, R thigh, R knee, R foot, L thigh, R knee, R foot. Discard your cleaning tool with a blessing. The energy you just removed does not serve you but could sever someone or something else.

Quantum Clearing-Quantum seems to be the buz word these days and thrown around in science and in conversations/literature about metaphysics and the like.

Quantum:
I really like Cynthia Sue Larson’s https://tricia-gunberg-6aqb.squarespace.com/config/pages/52f291f3e4b03da5553e211btake on it in her book ‘Quantum Jump’. I have tried some of these body postures and seen some of them in action in the past. Her over-all theme is “fake it til you make it” and she has the science to back it up. Let us practice some of the body postures.

Sitting up straight- creates confidence

A “power pose”- behaving like an extrovert-

             Hands on your hips

Leaning over with palms on a desk

Sit with feet up on desk and hands clasped behind the head

Pick a posture and BE STILL HERE AND FEEL

I AM

          Statements/Affirmations

You can rewire your brain with affirmations, it helps to push negative thoughts out. “Thoughts are things.” Science has proven this too. Placebo effect and scientist’s own thoughts which effect test results.

Creating our own affirmations-

  • For writers and creatives:  "I am a creative writer." "I write with ease and grace." "I am creative." "I am engaging."
  • Based on your numerology: My book gives you easy to follow instructions on how to create your own affirmations specific to you!

        Sound

Music and sound can have a profound effect on your mood. Need to set a mood to write a sultry character or scene? Pick sultry music. Need to pump yourself up for an important meeting? Pick rock music, think ‘Eye of the Tiger’.

Sound of ‘OM’. I am not much into the idea of chanting but have noticed something happening in me when I following along in yoga class doing the classic ‘om’. Primal breath, which by the way is three letters A U M, represents the three stares of consciousness: awake, dreaming, sleepless dreaming. Reference:  pg 158, ‘The Lucid Dreamer’ by Malcolm Godwin.)

These 3 I saved for last, I have them in my mind as a “HOE” not just an acronym so I can remember them but also because these are methods that dig down deep. They contain the potential to release emotion, memories and really bust through tough blocks.

  • Handwriting- “Change Your Handwriting to Change Your Life” by Polly Cady, Certified hand writing annalist. She has studied handwriting of serial killers and those with personality foibles. Her book looks at the positive attributes and as the title states, to make positive changes. Changes I have made:
Lower case: g,j,y    they are your money bags so make the bottom loop big

Crossing your t’s- cross through the middle means suffering. I decided I was no longer here to suffer and have changed all my t’s to upper case with an affirmation: “I am not here to suffer”. Deciding this was not very positive, I soon changed it to “I am here to enjoy life” and “I live with ease and grace.” Then to “with ease and grace’. Now I don’t say it every time but when I catch myself making a lower case T, I erase it and say “Control/Alt/Delete, ease and grace, ease and grace.”

Use 3x5 cards and decorate them!

Use 3x5 cards and decorate them!

  • Organizing Oracle- I use these when I want to create a schedule for myself and don’t know where to start.(Update: used them for myself then added it to my book “Say Yes to Who You Are to Create Fitness.)  It will feel like a ‘boss’ is telling you what to do – but it is really yourself and Law of Attraction. My oracle cards (N.O.W. update: getting them designed) started out generic:

go for a walk
research an agent
free choice reading time
watch TV
TAXES (Yuck!)
 Free Choice
Watch tv

Funny how I never, no matter how many times the “watch TV” was added, I never picked the watch TV card. (attention moms:  I used this method as a homeschool teacher. The kids would have several favorite activities written on a card for  free time choices. They would pick a card to see which one they would do. This helped a lot: less fighting, more variety, less time wasted deciding.)

I used my initiative abilities to pick the cards now. If you are unable to do it this way, do not worry, trust that whatever card you pic is the right one. Use index cards to write a “to do” list. Estimate how much time you have and how many cards/activities you can actually do or pick the cards randomly. (more instructions in my book: Chapter 3 section How to Work With Your Oracle Cards)

*Note: This is a practice in letting go, trust and using your/improving your intuition, aka: intuitive abilities

Essential oils-  Use with a carrier oil on your hands with a light massage. Your hands do a lot of work, appreciate all they do for you.

Frankincense penetrates your brain- why they can’t fix Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s because of the barrier that essential oils can penetrate–read from page 7 in Modern Essentials book, fifth edition

I end the workshop with a Q&A and scan the participants to see if they have cleared the energy spots that I detected before the workshop began.  Those practicing to use their intuition are encouraged to scan themselves.

If time is allowed, I like to share this poem to end the workshop:

Mirror, Mirror
While searching for meaning in all that is, in dreams, illness and challenges, these words came to me.
The people that I meet are but an image of me.
Am I so full of anger, resentment and worry?
The events that occur are but a reproduction.
Am I so full of hatred, sadness and fear?
The dreams that I have are an echo.
Am I so full of insecurity, regret, and loneliness?
The illnesses I endure are but a resonance.
Am I so full of withholding, controlling and lacking?
A case of mistaken identity, I hoped and I supposed.
But the messages keep repeating.
Why is it that I do not see these reflections of me?
For this case of mistaken identity, what do I need?
Until I can find the correct focus, this is all I have,
I do love you.
I am truly sorry.
I do beg and plead for forgiveness, for all of this and so much more.
My affection for you runs deep and true.
I thank you for your love and your patience.

Help me create a Wellness Revolution!

Love and Light,

Tricia
